dream. dream..DREAM

all of a sudden i have a dream. i want to be an author.
i haven't written anything in a long time, and even when i used to write i never finished anything. i'm trying to remember the stories that i had last worked on, or some that i never finished. i can think of the stories, but i don't remember how they were supposed to end.
the main problem for me is i'm not sure how plot is supposed to carry out. am i supposed to write lots of detail that may or may not be useful? like harry potter book seems to? or should i focus on detail that's the most crucial? and i'm not very good with the whole timing/spacing thing, as i have tended to write 40 or 50 odd pages before i feel like i'm halfway through the story.
i remember when i first started writing, i wrote a short series that i planned on finishing (hah.) i got to "book" 6 and then i stopped. i didn't know where to go with the story then. but each "book" was only about 30 pages. i guess that was okay for starting out as a 14 year old. but now i really want to get serious about writing again.
for once, in forever i have a dream. and i want to be an author. i want to publish books. books that people will read. i mean, i don't have to be famous like stephen king, but i'd hope i could make some money out of it... and people who will enjoy the books.
anyway. that is all for now. i am still deeply troubled that xnamehere hasn't written. :/
